Honored
On Wednesday Dick Christy and I got invited to attend a special ceremony in Bladen County (NC) conducted by the NC Dept. of Transportation in honor of our friend Mac Campbell Jr. Ask anyone is Bladen County or in Southeastern NC and they will tell you this honor is well deserved.
Here is a link to some of the pictures from the event
The NC DOT renamed NC 87 from NC 41 to US 701 in Bladen County as Mac Campbell Jr. Highway.
Photo below shows Dick and I standing under newly created highway sign on NC 87.
Mac is one of the best servant leaders I have ever known. On top of that I get to call him a friend. It was Mac’s day to be HONORED but he did what he always does and found a way to shine the light on others.
Attending the event were elected officials, business leaders, the Chancellor at UNC Pembroke, leaders from NC State, his family, NC DOT Board Members, members of the media, and of course a ton of friends including Dick and I.
Mac was not suppose to speak but he did. He focused his comments on others. After the event concluded he approached Dick and I and asked him to join his family for lunch. Dick and I told Mac that lunch should be a time to spend with your family. Without hesitation Mac told us I consider you family.
Mac Campbell got HONORED on Wednesday but when he told Dick and I we were family we both felt special. Servant leaders like Mac Campbell have that impact on people. I will smile every time I drive on Mac Campbell Jr. Highway.
