“Cynt” Marshall life took a dramatic turn as she stated from the stage on February 21, 2018. It was the day she wrote a blog post called ImpACT which happened to be the day Billy Graham died. It was also the day she received a call from Mark Cuban the owner of the Dallas Mavericks.
Cuban needed a transformation of his entire organization after Sports Illustrated did an article on all that was wrong in the workplace. He called her asking to become the CEO and transform the Dallas Mavs. She has done just that. In fact the Mavs just won the NBA Inclusion Award for the transformation.
The gem she shared about CHARACTER involved one of her sons who happened to be adopted at age 2. He was born in a bathtub to a mother who was a prostitute and drug addict. Her son at age 3 and half had a big day coming up at the pre-school he was attending. Each child was asked to bring a baby photo of themselves and tell a little about themselves.
The dilemma for Cynt’s son was no such baby picture existed. So her husband Kenny decided a baby picture of his nephew could be substituted. He prompted his son with a story he could use. Cynt was very concerned about this approach but had to leave on a business trip. When she returned home from San Francisco sitting on the kitchen table was a trophy from the Pre-School for baby picture story telling. She was aghast.
She pulled her son aside and asked what happened. He said he held up the picture and told the class that was his cousin. He told them he was born in a bathtub. He didn’t have any baby pictures because he was adopted at age 2. So he brought in the photo of his cousin. The class applauded and he won the award. He demonstrated CHARACTER at age 3 and half.
Cynt said her son reinforced to her that we all are born with CHARACTER just like her little man. Along the way of living life we get tempted to do things that are not right. When we resist those temptations we galvanize our CHARACTER.
To keep our CHARACTER intact Cynt says, you have to “know somebody”. She never said who that somebody was but I believe the answer is found in John 14:6
