How do you measure LOVE? It is not easy to put a number on how you are feeling. It is much easier to measure actions than feelings. Yet today on St. Valentine’s Day much is promoted and marketed on how LOVE should feel.

I wrote a post last year on Valentine’s Day

I do believe that LOVE often starts out in any relationship as a noun (feeling). In order for that relationship to strengthen and grow that noun has to change in order for their to be longevity. Feelings by themselves may not be the bedrock for long lasting commitment.

In the best partnerships the definition of love goes from being a noun (feeling) to a verb (action). That is not an easy bridge to cross. It takes hard work, sacrifice, and a set of behaviors. That transition from emotion to behavior is what makes gives a marriage results. Results come from action not feelings. You have to take action to make LOVE stick.

In the Bible there is place that often gets referred as the “Love Chapter” 1 Corinthians 13

“Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

Patience, kindness, protection, trusting, and persevering are all behaviors. Those qualities need to be part of any loving relationship. I am blessed that I have many in my life that LOVE me. At the top of the list is my wife.

My wife Mira Gibson Kenney

Her daily attitude and behavior become my validation that LOVE can measured when the focus in on action not feelings.

Happy Valentine’s Day
