Bond
My 30 Day Challenge for March is to read. My goal is to complete eight books this month. I wrote about my targeted list on March 1st.
It might not work for everyone but I am reading 3-4 books at the same time. I read a few chapters from one book and then switch. One of the books is called Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek.

I have finished reading this book and there are so many ideas, concepts, and principles that I find fascinating. One of them was not necessarily new but explained with clarity why I have always enjoyed the BOND of teamwork.

Sinek is a master in weaving concepts about leadership in a repetitive way that makes the idea stick. Early in the book he talks about brain chemicals. In fact Chapter 6 is all about Endorphins, Dopamine, Serotonin, and Oxytocin. I plan on doing a later post about these brain chemicals.
As the book comes to a close he poses a question to his readers. What were your best days at work? What was going on those memorable days.
The answer he got from most people he interviewed was not a workday on cruise control. In fact it was the complete opposite. His research found that people had a tendency to respond that the memorable events involved workdays where everything went wrong, but the hardship was shared.
He explains that when we share the hardships with people we trust our bodies release Oxytocin which helps us form a BOND. That BOND makes our best days at work revolve around moments where we endured and helped someone else. The key is trust.
Strong BONDS are formed when trust is present. I have been blessed to be on a number of teams where the leader in charge made trust part of the culture. The leader knew how to make people feel safe and that formed a BOND.
Sinek says it beautifully with this quote from the book “when we share the hardship, we biologically grow stronger”.
