Song Lyric Sunday

This week our host Jim Adams for Song Lyric Sunday has given us the prompt to write about the following fruits; Apple/Banana/Cherry/Olive/Orange/Strawberry. The choice this week can’t be something nutty but it can be fruity.

Here are the “rules”:
• Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it contains the prompt words or not.  If it does not meet the criteria, then please explain why you chose this song.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.  Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be.
• Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
• Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
• Have fun and enjoy the music.

I have a playlist on Spotify by JJ Grey and Mofro and I have selected one of their songs called “Orange Blossoms” which is on the album with the same name. JJ Grey gets labeled as blues artist with a swamp rock sound. He has a unique sound and I enjoy his music.

Orange Blossoms is written by JJ Grey. Grey is from Florida which has it fair share of Orange Orchards. I caught a typo on a webpage that list Ervin Rouse as the songwriter of Orange Blossoms. He did write Orange Blossom Special which is another song and a different genre all together.

Here are the lyrics

This video of Orange Blossoms I am posting captures a faux crime story. It takes great liberties in creating an image of Florida having a dangerous and violent orange blossom industry. The video stars JJ Grey as Talmidge “Sweet Thing” Davis and guitarist Daryl Hance as enforcer Roy “Tater” Rothstein, the tongue-in-cheek story involves the rise and fall of the notorious and fierce North Florida flower syndicate. Daryl Hance, who was an original member of Mofro, left the band in 2010 before this album was made to pursue a solo career.

In the video “Tater” being a true musicians went ahead and sang to the feds to bring “Sweet Thing” to justice.

The video unfolds with closed-captioned narration while the song plays. I love the song and of course the made up story.

Orange you glad I choose this tune?
