Care
Yesterday I have the privilege of delivering the “Minute for Mission” at First Presbyterian Church.
I am part of the 2019 Stewardship Committee and was asked to speak on the theme which is FOR GOD SO LOVED………….which are the first 4 words of a bible passage the committee chose from the New Testament John 3:16.
Each member of the congregation was asked to use one word to describe their reaction to that statement.
Each response was collected and used to create a word cloud. As of today this is what it looks like.
This word cloud captured both the common and unique reactions the congregation had. The word cloud has something in common with two truths I adhere to.
- GOD gives all of us unique talents and gifts. We all have unique talents and gifts to help us navigate our purpose in life. GOD has a plan for each of us, but it might not be our plan. Just like the word cloud there will be parts of our life’s purpose that will be different.
- I discovered my purpose in life through a relationship with GOD. The path to knowing GOD has taken many twists and turns including a belief in John 3:16. His plan landed me at First Presbyterian. It also included many people especially my wife praying for me to discover that relationship.
I know my purpose in life is to coach. I believe the pathway to becoming the best coach possible is to be a servant. Only thru service might I have an opportunity to assist people to learn, improve, grow, and win.
To be successful at coaching you develop relationships with those that you coach. The most important relationship you can have is to serve GOD. Leadership is all about influence. You gain influence by serving others. To lead you must serve.
Yesterday I reminded those in attendance that GOD’S plan for all of us includes finding ways to grow their influence by serving others.
That plan would include my ONE word reaction for the word cloud.
I have experienced this one word at First Presbyterian Church. Our family has gone thru trials and tough times. We are not the only family that has troubles and to be honest our woes pale in comparison to many.
In each of those situations my church family has demonstrated to our family how much they CARE. They have been generous in giving their time and offering encouragement to us. That is often more valuable than even the most generous gift. So my one word reaction to FOR GOD SO LOVED is to CARE.
CARE enough to give your time, talents, and treasures to others. CARE enough to love GOD by serving others.
