Recap

In 2020 I am doing a series of 30 Day Challenges each month.

For the month of July it involved giving away compliments. I successfully delivered at least one genuine compliment each day in July. Here is my RECAP of the past month.

recap

To review here is how the 30 Day COMPLIMENT Challenge worked.

There were some nuances. First the COMPLIMENT has to be genuine. Second the COMPLIMENT has to be delivered face to face, via the phone, or by a hand written note. A text, Facebook post, Tweet, or email did not qualify as a countable COMPLIMENT. Third avoid having the COMPLIMENT be about physical appearance or characteristics. (No comments about nice hair, smile, or clothes)

The goal was to focus on someone’s actions, behavior, effort, or character. My personal goal was to give a COMPLIMENT to 30 Different People and I did it. I really enjoyed taking a small part of my day and focusing on what makes other people unique and special.

My favorite moment was when I went to a drive-thru in early July and the line of cars was wrapped around the building. To my amazement the line moved very rapidly. When I got up to the window I thanked the cashier who took my payment for how fast the line moved.

I complimented her on how the team of people inside had to be working hard. She screamed for her co-workers to come the window and made me repeat what I said. She told them did you hear that a customer appreciates us-they all smiled and gave me a COMPLIMENT. They all said thanks for noticing us. I truly believe what we give does come back to us.

When you reach out to someone and give them a COMPLIMENT you do take on a risk.  Your comment might be rejected but that wasn’t the case with me. Yes a few people did attempt to diminish or undermine the praise I provide them but deep down inside I think it made their day a little better.

I stumbled on to a good post by Chelsea Jones called “What Actually Happens When You Compliment Someone”

Here is a quote from Chelsea

When you compliment someone, you take a risk—you risk changing the world for the better. You risk igniting someone else’s spark. You risk sending someone into a frenzy of doing good, achieving more, and being better. You risk spreading love and joy to others that you may never know about.

The other cool thing about this month’s challenge was that I had some 20 plus friends and family members who joined in. I haven’t heard from all of them but I smile when I envision what joy all of  combined COMPLIMENTS as a group we brought to the world-Thanks guys and gals!!
