A friend of a friend-Brenda Crebs-Steve Barrata-October 5

One thing I have learned is that good friends have other good friends. This is a series of stories about “friends of my friends”. The post below is the story for October 5, 2015.

My goal in 2015 is to learn or get re-acquainted with 365 people and doing a daily post on the “the friend of a friend” is helping me get closer to my goal.

On Friday night a special friend celebrated his 60th Birthday Steve Barrata. His wife Brenda Crebs went all out and pulled a great surprise for him complete with out-of-town family members several from California.

Steve brings a California vibe to our circle of friends and his energy level is not what you find in someone in their 60’s. He is intelligent, outgoing, and fun to be around.

The first time I actually met Steve was in the summer of 2014 when a group of friends of ours all traveled to Southern Pines, NC for a Blues Crawl. It is a great event and I am sorry I missed it in 2015 but hope I get to attend in 2016. For the 2014 event we had about 10 couples who went to the event each of us riding in separate vehicles. Steve impressed me the first time I met him as someone who really knew and appreciated music. When we are gathered together as a group today if a song comes on from the 70’s-80’s he is usually the first to know the artist and title.

Professionally Steve possess a great background in Health Care and Strategic Planning.

As I have gotten to know him better I also realize that he has a great appreciation for cigars and fine scotch. I have to confess they are two vices I don’t have but I do like listening to he and others discuss their passion about both.

I do chuckle when the group of cigar smoking friends that is in our social circle come close to incurring physical injury from either the cigar cutter or industrial scale lighters they use.

Keep this lighter away from you face-just saying!

When I see a finger get cut or burns to the facial area I often yell out “C’mon Man” to the offending party but that has not happened with Steve-he truly is the cigar aficionado in the group. When the group gets together and if there is a chance to be outside it is not long before the guys and Steve’s special wife Brenda Crebs have all lit up a cigar.

The Friend of the Friend-BRENDA CREBS

Brenda Crebs

Steve has married to a wonderful mother, wife, and friend. She is someone who truly honors her family and friends with her genuine concern and consideration. She is held in high esteem by lots of her friends in the community including the group below.

She was able to pull off a great surprise birthday celebration for her husband on Friday night that he got to share with not only his family but friends including my wife and I.

Brenda and Steve know how to think about others. They are always on the look out for craft beers for me and I have been exposed to some good stuff from Florida thanks to them. Just last week-end Brenda dropped off at my house the #1 Beer to drink in the fall. Pumking by Southern Tier out of New York. If you can imagine drinking a beer that taste like pumpkin pie than you are drinking Pumking.

Steve and Brenda circle of friends and neighbors in Lumberton are praying that Steve’s career will allow him, Brenda, and Noah to stay in our community. We need someone that knows the music and cigars.
