After Christmas my wife DETECTED a faint odor of gas coming from a fireplace in our home. I could occasionally smell it so we cut off the valve to the pilot light and waited for our fantastic handyman Rudy to check it out
When Rudy arrived a couple of weeks ago he taught me a lesson about DETECTION.
He said that sometimes our sense of smell can tell us there is a gas leak but it cannot pinpoint the location. When it comes to a gas leak he had the answer to DETECT the source.
He went to his truck and brought in a bottle of a high velocity gel called Gas Leak DETECTOR from National Refrigeration
Rudy took this gel and daubed it on each gas line connection in the fireplace. Sure enough at one spot the gel starting bubbling and he had DETECTED the leak. He quickly tighten the connection and the problem was solved.
In our lives sometimes we need the help of others to DETECT the source of our problems. Each person has a unique set of perspectives or tools that can be of use to us when he comes to sizing up and improving areas of concern.
My wife DETECTED a problem. I avoided a problem by cutting off the gas. Rudy solved the problem.
Rudy had the perspective and tools to DETECT and correct the leak. We all need people in our lives that can help us with DETECTION.
As a leader you need to surround yourself with people who can and will DETECT your leadership leaks.
