Tendencies

I got to listen to the author Gretchen Rubin discuss some of books including The Four TENDENCIES

There is a great blog on her that can be found at SaneBox at this link.

Gretchen is one of those leaders that is fascinated with what can make people happier. She is a disciple of people making small changes that increase personal well-being and happiness? She believes that we have to adapt those changes to TENDENCIES we have in meeting external and internal expectations.

In order to do that she believes we all need to identify what individual TENDENCIES we each possess specifically as it relates to expectations. She believes that there are four of these TENDENCIES and they are as follows:

Upholder-accepts rules, whether from outside or inside. An upholder meets deadlines, follows doctor’s order, keeps a New Year’s resolution.

Questioner-questions rules and accepts them only if they make sense. They may choose to follow rules, or not, according to their judgment.

Obliger-accepts outside rules, but doesn’t like to adopt self-imposed rules.

Rebel-flouts rules, from outside or inside. They resist control. Give a rebel a rule, and the rebel will want to do the very opposite thing.

If you want she provides a quiz and you can determine what your TENDENCY is

Take her quiz

I took the quiz and came out with the Upholder TENDENCY. There is no one of the four that is better than the other. Each has their plusses and minuses. When we understand ourselves better we can make adaptations that can put us on a pathway to happiness.

I believe we all have a TENDENCY to want to become better at meeting expectations.
