Camp
Our daughter and son-in-law got to take a well deserved trip to the mountains of North Carolina last week. They were gone for four days and we got to have our granddaughter Bryleigh with us.
My wife and I decided to make those 4 days she was with us a CAMP experience for her.
We attempted to fill up each day with some type of activity. Part of that objective was to expose her to new experiences and to tire her out each evening. We might have miscalculated who would tire out first but that is a post for another day.
As grandparents we realize how fortunate we are to see our granddaughter every day via FaceTime at a minimum. We often hear from friends that have their grandchildren 1,000 miles away from them. We both embraced the four days as a gift that many others wish they had.
As a former college basketball coach I have worked at a lot of CAMPS. I have also served as a CAMP Director but that was a couple of decades ago. The one thing that came back real quick as CAMP director as it pertained to Bryleigh was you had to make it fun. Here are a few photos from her CAMP experience that I believe she enjoyed.
To make CAMP entertaining it required planning and thinking ahead. So we had plans for aerobics in the hot tub, cooking and preparing vegetables, golf, field trip in golf cart, visiting with neighbors, and watching Disney TV shows. I quickly remembered how wonderful it is when a planned activity works out. What was even more wonderful was to scrap those plans if a serendipitous moment arrived. The four days of CAMP with our granddaughter provided a bunch of those moments.
CAMP reminded me that not everything in life can be scripted ahead of time but with the right mindset it all can be enjoyed.
